SOCK WAR!!!

One of the new elements of Camp BlueSky this year is that the entire camp is divided into 2 teams.  They are either Chumvi (Salt) or Nuru (Light).  The campers love it, the whole competition has really increased camp spirit throughout the week.  The staff are on the same team all summer long, so lets not pretend that this is just about the campers, the staff really want their team to win for the summer.  After 3 sessions, Nuru  is leading 2-1.  We won't know this week's winner until tomorrow at closing.
The week starts of with a cheer war between the two teams.  The Chumvi king (Patrick in red) is pitted against the Nuru king (Tyler in blue) as the two teams square off.

Each day the teams have competitions.  Some are the afternoon game like Maji Madness (a water game) and others are small filler games.  It all culminates on Friday afternoon with Sock War, Camp BlueSky's most famous activity.  Here are the two teams preparing for battle.

Chumvi

Nuru

Sock war is similar to capture the flag, in that the way to get the most points is to retrieve the other team's flag.  The war is fought with socks filled with sawdust, if you get hit, you must check-in and the other team gets a point.  Each team has 2 generals who are worth extra points when captured.  Here are some action shots from today.

Nuru was victorious in Sock War today but will it be enough to take this week's team challenge???

*Editor's Note: I write these posts from the States and had mistakenly posted that Chumvi won Sock War.  Within 10 minutes of posting it I had received a text from Kenya informing me of my mistake.  Chumvi/ Nuru is serious stuff at Camp BlueSky!
