One Family is Especially Thankful for Camp this Week

When the Patel family dropped their 11 year old daughter off at camp on Sunday, they were pleasantly surprised to see that there was an excited little girl in her cabin with Down's Syndrome.  They have a little boy with Down's and they had never considered signing him up for camp because they assumed we  wouldn't take special needs campers.  Our policy has always been to go the extra mile to accommodate any child that we are able to at camp.

When the family inquired about a spot to their son, Amanda (the camp director) told them it was unlikely that we would be able to take him this year because camp is full and we have a long waiting list.  She promised she would call them if something changed and they said they would sign him up next summer.  At the end of registration a spot that was perfect for their son opened up and Amanda called them and told them we had a spot.  They were back by the end of dinner that night with an energetic boy who ran up to Amanda and hugged her like they had been friends forever.  The entire family was so thankful that he would be able to spend the week at camp.  We are so thankful that we were able to show the love of Jesus to this Hindu family and give their young son an awesome week at camp.

We've got 121 children at camp this week and about half them come from Hindu and Muslim backgrounds.  Please pray for the hearts of the young campers and the staff as they share Christ with these campers.  Here are some of the cabin shots from opening day.
