The camp staff finished their work in Western Kenya over the weekend. They really had a great week. They planted trees, played with the kids, and even did some seminars for the ECD teachers (preschool) on how they could incorporate experiential learning into their teaching. All of the teachers and pastors who attended the seminar loved it! Pastor Caleb was particularly excited about how it could be used. He preached an entire sermon using the human knot as an illustration!
One of the particularly cool things the team was a part of happened after planting trees at one of the churches. Our team and the Kenyans who had gathered around (foreigners always attract a crowd) took a minute to pray over the trees they had just planted. They prayed that the Lord would bless the trees and help them to grow and that the Lord would heal their land so that they could grow food to eat. As soon as they said "Amen" the rain started pouring down. What an awesome example of the Lord's provision for His people and His willingness to answer their prayers!
Each year the camp team has a soccer game with one of the area high schools, its a big event! Our guys lost 5 to 1 and everyone really enjoyed themselves (especially the winners!). It was an awesome opportunity for the pastors that travel with our team to build relationships with people in the community that are not church members.
Our team also enjoyed their time with their host families. They were able to spend the day with them on Sunday and attend their church. Many of them preached or sang at church, they were spread out into 7 different churches. After saying goodbye to their host family, the camp staff reconvened for one last night in Western together. Monday morning they travelled to Uganda to raft the Nile! It will be an incredible time for them to enjoy God's creation as well is rest and process all of the things the Lord has allowed them to be a part of over the past couple of weeks!
