Josh Robertson – an amazing man! I, (Kim), first met Josh in February 2009 at a pre-Kenya mission trip retreat. I noticed Josh’s smile and energetic personality as soon as he stepped out of the car. Through times of sharing our life stories, I quickly learned of Josh’s deep faith in the Lord and his desire to share His Lord with the people in Kenya. Then, during a mid-night Waffle House run, I learned of Josh’s passion for the outdoors and a good adventure! I remember thinking: Josh will fit perfectly on this mission team and within Kenya. Josh was still smiling when he stepped off the plane in Kenya last June. We met up with some other high-school students from an international school in Nairobi and shared a day of rock climbing and an evening under the stars. I could tell that Josh was loving every second! Then we headed to western Kenya to spend time ministering among the people. Josh immediately began playing with the children, a true example of showing Christ’s love to the least of these. I’ve been able to keep in touch with Josh these last few months, and a group of us were able to relive our Kenya memories over some Ethiopian food in Atlanta last November. At that time, Josh was halfway through his first semester at UGA, and clearly, he was thriving! I loved hearing about Josh’s latest adventures as well as the ways in which the Lord was teaching him and growing him. Suffice it to say, shock was my immediate reaction to an early morning text on Saturday morning telling me that Josh had been killed in a rock climbing accident a few hours earlier. That shock has moved into sadness throughout the rest of this weekend as I have continued to reflect on Josh’s character, his genuine smile, his passion for adventure, rock climbing specifically, and his whole-hearted devotion to the Lord. Our Father has just welcomed home one amazing child! As the Brackenhurst Ministries team remembers Josh, we ask you guys to please be praying for his parents, 3 siblings, extended family, the Southside Church family and friends, as well as his UGA community as they mourn the loss of this amazing man, Josh.
