Today was the last day for the Southside team to be in Western Kenya. Since the irrigation and documentation projects finished early (if you've ever been to Kenya, you will remember that finishing early is unheard of, so praise the Lord for efficient work!), the team travelled together into the community for the health and sanitation seminars.
Throughout the week, the seminars have been held in each of the 5 churches where we have drilled a well. These churches are centrally located, so by holding them there we were able to maximize the number of people that were able to come. The seminars started by talking about the importance of clean water and then moved into sanitation where they discussed washing hands, etc. They ended by talking about sex education and family planning, which focused on sharing a biblical view of sex and marriage. This part of the seminar was just for adults and the team found that people had been exposed to very little truth regarding the subject of sex. Several government officials attended the seminars and thanked the group for talking about Christ and practical issues. They asked the group to plan to come back and lead more seminars for more people.
Connie with Baby Jim (who had apparently had a long day, he was a sleepy little guy). His parents named him after Connie's husband.
After wrapping up the seminars, the team left Bungoma and headed for Kisumu, the largest city in western Kenya. They will stay there for the night and tomorrow they will leave for the Maasai Mara where they will go on Safari. We are so thankful for the team and their willingness to love and serve the people in Kenya!
