Camp BlueSky Is Off to a Great Start

While people in the States were enjoying a long-weekend, Camp BlueSky got off to a busy start in Kenya.  We had 60 campers arrive on Sunday afternoon and things are off to a great start!  The theme for camp this year is RESCUE and the theme verse is Colossians 1:13-14: "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness into the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."  Amanda, who serves as the Camp Director, and her leadership team have developed the theme through an acronym for RESCUE, each day they talk about a different word and a corresponding story.  

Rebellion: Creation story, fall of humanity, promise of rescue in Jesus

Exodus: God rescuing his people through Moses delivering the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt

Shielded: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being rescued in the fire

Consumed: Jonah being consumed by the fish and God rescuing him to serve Him.

Unexpected: God's ultimate rescue of humanity through His son Jesus

Ever after: God's promise of abundant life with him now on earth and throughout eternity through our faith in Jesus and trust in Him.

On Monday night after the evening activity, Gabe ties in his story with the theme.

Stephen took the Meru (middle school girls) and their counselors (Daley, Marianna, and Jackie) rock climbing.  All of the girls climbed, there was lots of encouagement as well as hanging out and chatting.  At the end, Stephen helped draw the parallel between trusting the rope to 'rescue' you if you fall while climbing and trusting God to 'rescue' us always.
