After the camp staff left, our team on the ground began preparing for the fall. They said goodbye to Clayton and Eric, who both moved back to the States to go back to school. Eric is starting at UGA in a grad school program for agricultural development and Clayton is making plans to go to EMT school.
Kim and Amanda went to the coast for several days of much needed rest. When they got back they immediately started looking for a new place to live. After the break-in this summer, they decided not to stay in the house anymore, but didn't have time to look for a new place until now. Within the first day of looking they found a place that they feel really good about. The owners of the house live next door, so they feel comfortable that they will be safety conscious. Additionally, several US Embassy personnel live on their street, and the Embassy obviously makes sure their people are in a safe place. The house is in a strategic location from a ministry perspective, it will put them in very close proximity to the people they are working to reach. They aren't able to move in until the end of the month so for the next couple of weeks they are staying with friends.
Both Kim and Amanda have started their ministry roles in the church for the fall. Kim is busy planning for and getting small groups up and running. Amanda is overseeing children's ministry again this year, so she is busy lining up teachers and implementing the curriculum. School starts this week so they are spending time in schools, reconnecting with kids and meeting the newcomers. Youth group starts this coming Sunday so please be in prayer for them as they prepare for it this week.
A new team member, Jon Gill, will be leaving the States today to join the team for the fall. Jon will be working with BlueSky Adventures. He will be responsible for programming and staff development. He also leads worship, which will be a huge blessing at youth group. Please pray for Jon's safe travel and adjustment to Kenya. We are so thankful to have his help for the next several months.

I am so proud to know you guys, all of you. Wonderful to hear there's someone able to take over Adventures. Let me know what I can help with this fall in terms of fundraising and recruiting, etc. I'm not sure my emails to previous staff earlier in the year were helpful...may need to rethink my strategy for the fall...
ReplyDeleteLove you guys! I'm so excited to read and see the wonderful things you are doing!
