Amanda's Thoughts On The Camp Staff Retreat

The 2010 Camp Staff

“No matter how good, ordinary, bad, or weird our stories are, everyone felt free to share and it was good.”  --one of our camp staff team members at the retreat

This past weekend our summer team got together at WinShape in Rome, Georgia. From a late night in the woods high in the air on a rope, to praying quietly together in the morning, and even daring each other to see how many Warheads we can eat at once (I threw up, by the way) we began to look like a team. We had a great time of sharing as we all sat on comfy couches and shared our own faith journeys and how we came to be a part of camp and Kenya. On Saturday we played outside in the beautiful warm sunshine learning about functioning as a team and in other cultures. The facilitators at WinShape Wilderness created some great teambuilding and cultural activities to spark some really good discussions. In the afternoon we were blindfolded and given secret roles to play and, though they weren’t supposed to be from a specific culture, we could all definitely pick out the “Americans” in the group.  The games that we played got us to start thinking about taking care of each other and what we might expect encountering another culture. Thanks for doing such a great job Wilderness!

God has once again blessed us with a fantastic leadership team. I felt so confident in their encouragement, service, and leadership. I am really looking forward to working with them. We also have some really great men and women serving with us as counselors. Not everyone was able to make it this weekend and I am really looking forward to seeing everyone together. The men and women on our staff are coming from 7 different states and 2 countries. And we’re not even full staffed yet! I am excited to see how we all come together and who God continues to call to join our team.

Please pray for our camp staff. Pray that God would continue to unify us though we are in different places doing many different things. Pray that we would get at least 6-8 more male counselors on the team. Pray that God would grow our love for Him and our passion for serving Him in Kenya at camp this summer.

Thanks for praying for us as we prepare for the summer! I’ll keep you updated about the camp team!
